He helped each of us get better. A tremendous student athlete,” said Jovan Belcher’s coach Jack Cosgrove, of the University of Maine Black Bears, a  CAA football  powerhouse.

Jovan’s jersey 59 retired, at his age of twenty five. His versatility in wrestling and football, first recognized at West Babylon High School on Long Island’s South Shore, he signed as a free agent, becoming the linebacker for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

 Killing his girl friend Kassandra Perkins, age twenty two, and mother of their three month old daughter, thirty minutes earlier, his own mother visiting from West Babylon.

Her son and Kassandra been in a clash of temperaments over her coming home late after a night out at a concert with friends. The rhetoric going to the edge as the game clock ticked away into the ensuing chain of causation and oblivion.

Hailing from Austen, Texas, a community college student, bent on becoming a school teacher.. A Chief’s wife introduced her to the linebacker. With four years of tackling stats and one sack, Jovan seemed to be a star in his own right.

  Legendary Paul Robson of Rutgers?  Of Al American fame? A renaissance man.

Jackie Robinson who broke the color line in baseball? Michael Strahan ,a tackle himself,who took over Regis Philbin’s 40 year role on the morning tee vee talk show circuit?

O.J.Simpson of Hertz notoriety? The villainy in his Cqalifornia manse.The chopper chase on the San Diego Freeway. Its imagery on the small screen

But here a student athlete. His priorities topsy turvy .Matriculating in child Developoment and Family Education. Where were the omens?

A homecoming at West babylon High School, embracing old friends and former teammates, showing off his three month old beautiful daughter. His “never give up” attitude

 A one million nine hundred+ one year contract, covering up his demons........

The city that never sleeps, the Long Island Railroad chugging along...Lynbrook, Rockville Center, Baldwin, Freeport (South Long Beach Ave) Massapequa Massapequa Park, Babylon...
